Reasons for going back to work…

I’ve been asked by people why I’ve decided to go back to work. I’ve always been an ardent supporter of stay-at-home moms. Right now, the economy is in a precarious position, as most people know. My husband works in advertising, so his job is very closely tied to the economy. When the economy slows down, so does business for his company. At any rate, there have been several firings of management level employees at his company. In a way, we’re probably OK because Aaron continues to get more and more responsibilities because of it…we’re thinking if you have enough responsibility you become indispensible.

However…that may not always be the case. We absolutely have to be in a position to be able to continue to have health insurance. Granted, we would have COBRA coverage for awhile, but it will be expensive (about $1,100 a month). And we CANNOT go without health insurance. Aaron is diabetic and of course there is David. David’s medications, before insurance, run about $850/month…that doesn’t include visits to the specialist and rental on the main nebulizer…we would go under financially really quickly without insurance. And I can’t even imagine having a hospitalization without insurance.

So, I am trying to get my work history more current at the very least and hopefully I will be in a position to request a full-time position or at least get pro-rated insurance coverage.
