Dear Parents at The G’s School,

Hello! I know that it is a real pain to take kids places, but here’s the thing…if you don’t intend on making sure your child isn’t going to be disruptive to the other 100 people in the room, maybe you should just stay home. See, it’s a real drag to have your evening spoiled by some kid (who is, by the way, old enough to know better) raising a ruckus.

You know those decorations they school made for the event? You know that cool fake campfire? I know you know what I’m talking about because your kid went up and completely dismantled it. See, the thing about decorations is that they’re meant for everyone to enjoy. Now, I’d cut you some slack if it was your toddler who had done that…and you went back and tried to fix the damage. But, when your second grader (who is supposedly on their way to becoming Einstein or Madame Curie or something like that) does that, it’s just not cool…or cute… or funny.

Oh, and when the actual author of the children’s story is reading their story to the group, it would be really nice if you would tell your kid that the polite and respectful thing to do is sit and listen quietly. And it’s really rude when YOU start talking when the story is then read in Spanish. Just because you don’t understand the language doesn’t mean that someone else isn’t enjoying hearing a story in their native tongue.

So, parents at the G’s school, please try parenting next time you come to an event. Oh, and when something is advertised as a family event, that means you come as a family…whatever that family may look like…two dads and some kids or a mom, a dad, and some kids, a mom and kids, a dad and kids…I think you get the picture. When you send your child alone to the family event, that’s just not too cool.

Sincerely a Mom on a Parenting Rant,
oregonamy

I’m Off…

I’m off for the weekend! Heading down to see my grandma. It’s her birthday and I’ve been planning this trip for a couple of months. The boys and I will be going. The Husband is staying home. My parents will be coming, as will my sister. I guess it’s a good thing The Husband isn’t coming…he’d have no place to sit!

It’s my grandma’s 96th birthday. I haven’t seen her much in the last couple of years due to The D’s health issues and because I’ve gone back to work. But, her health is starting to fail and she IS 96, so it’s very likely that this could be her last birthday. It’ll be good to see her.

Maybe I will return with interesting tales to tell!

A relaxing day…

Today was very relaxing and that is just what I needed after having such a wild week. I had been remiss in preparing for Easter, so we went to the store and got egg dye. The boys colored eggs and then I went and took a nap.

I don’t think I’ve been sleeping well. I fell asleep and slept for over three hours! I feel much better and will probably be awake until 2am, but it sure felt good today!

We went to the Salem Riverfront Carousel for the D’s 4th birthday. It turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day.

First of all, it was perfectly clear and 70 degrees. So, rather than finding a restaurant to have lunch at, we just ran and got sandwiches and had a picnic for lunch. My sister and her family and my sister-in-law and kids all came down and met us there. Of course, the grandparents were there, along with my husband aunt and Granny (the kids’ great-grandma).

The carousel wasn’t too busy, so that was really nice. The kids all got to ride about 4 or 5 times and had a lot of fun. The D isn’t too thrilled with heights, so he preferred the horses that didn’t go up and down or riding in the covered wagons. At the end, though, he did ride a “galloping” horse.

All in all, it was really great day! Happy 4th birthday to the D!

A great day!

We had a great day today…so nice to have a day off!  We went over and spent the day at the aquarium on the coast. I was a little concerned as we had to wait in line for 45 minutes to get in. However, once we were inside, it didn’t seem busy at all.

The boys loved it! The were so excited to see the sharks in the “Passages of the Deep” exhibit. They loved watching the seals and sea lions. They loved the sea otter. Since the last time we had visited, they have added a touch pool with rays and small sharks of some sort. They were so excited to get to touch the sharks and rays. They also went to the traditional touch pool with anenomes and star fish.

All in all it was a really great day…a little cold but no rain!

A day off!

Tomorrow is a day off for me!  I have one scheduled day off each month, a day off leading up to the weekend I have to work.  I’m hoping tomorrow will be enjoyable.  My parents are coming over and, since it’s Spring Break, we’ll head over to spend the day at the coast.  We’ll go to the Hatfield Marine Science Center and possibly to the Sea Lion Caves.  I’m hoping we may even get a little sun…or at least not too much rain.
