I am finally getting a chance to post about David’s surgery. Everything went very well. It was actually a very easy process. We got to have a nice long conversation with the anesthesiologist and felt very comfortable. The anesthesiologist that responded to David’s emergency two years ago wasn’t our anesthesiologist this time, but he stopped by to say high. One of the IV nurses who also responded to David’s emergency stopped by and offered to start David’s IV, but they started it in the operating room when he was under. They gave him some Versed prior to being taken back to the operating room. So, he didn’t mind at all. I don’t know if I could have handled it had he been screaming and crying. But, he wasn’t and was actually pretty happy through out the whole process.
He was a little bit fussy as he woke up from anesthesia. But, then he fell asleep for about 90 minutes. Then, he woke up and was just fine, although a bit goofy. Once he drank some juice and peed, we were allowed to go home. As soon as we walked in the door (it was noon when we got home), he asked for lunch and wanted Mac n’ Cheese.
Seeing this kid, you would never have known that he had surgery. They had sent us home with some liquid Tylenol #3 and seemed pretty certain he would need it. He didn’t seem to be in pain but I gave him some Ibuprofen just in case. The day after his surgery I gave him some of the Tylenol #3 just in an effort to slow him down a bit. I thought he was going to hurt himself…he was climbing on things, jumping, trying to do somersaults.
So, he’ll see the surgeon for a recheck on Wednesday. Hopefully he won’t still have a hernia because of the way he was running around after surgery!
